Auping Cleopatra krijgt GIO special award voor orginaliteit
De GIO Erkenningen 2009 zijn op 10 december uitgereikt tijdens een ceremonie in de Rotterdam School of Management. Volgend op de uitreiking van de 56 GIO Erkenningen zijn tevens de zes Special Awards bekendgemaakt die de jury heeft toegekend aan de meest onderscheidende inzendingen op de aspecten Respect, Functionaliteit, Ergonomie, Vormgeving, Originaliteit en Materiaal. De Special Award ‘Originaliteit’ was dit jaar voor onze inzending ‘Cleopatra’ en werd door de jury als volgt gemotiveerd: Met de toekenning van de Special Award Originaliteit aan Cleopatra eert de jury het baanbrekende, ontwerp van Dick Cordemeijer uit 1953. Het concept als geheel van het Cordemeyer-bed was wat achterhaald, maar vertaald naar deze tijd komen de goede dingen opnieuw naar voren. Opdrachtgever: Royal Auping; Ontwerp: Mars Holwerda, Maarten den Hartog en Pamela Musch.

OPA trapt seizoen af met eerste avond over duurzaamheid
In dit eerste ontwerpcafé rondom het jaarthema Duurzaamheid (2009-2010) namen we in de geschiedenis van duurzaam denken en duurzaam ontwerpen. De eerste bijdrage was van Leen Dresen (Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen) over de geschiedenis van het denken over duurzaamheid. Diana de Graaf (BECO) lichtte het thema ontwerpen en Duurzaamheid toe. Mars Holwerda presenteerde de resultaten van de Pressure Cooker over elektrisch rijden, waar door een zestal Arnhemse ontwerpers tijdens de Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven een dag lang aan werd gewerkt. Deelnemende ontwerpers waren: Debbie Wijskamp (product design), Inge Uittenbogaard (fashion design), Joost Overbeek (graphic design), Theo Reesink (landscape architecture), Mars Holwerda (product design/presentator) en Tomas Postema (sound design). Richard Vijgen ontwikkelde een digitaal presentatieconcept dat deze avond voor het eerst in Arnhem te zien was. De enthousiaste reacties gaan ongetwijfeld leiden tot een vervolg.

Auping Cleopatra krijgt GIO
Op zaterdag 3 oktober heeft een onafhankelijke jury zich gebogen over bijna 90 inzendingen. De jury was van mening dat het bed Cleopatra voor Koninklijke Auping, ingezonden in de categorie Consumentenproducten vanaf heden het predicaat Goed Industrieel Ontwerp mag voeren!

Made in Arnhem organiseert pressurecooker NEDERLAAD op de DDW
Op 21 oktober 2009 wordt in het klopgebouw op strijp S te Eindhoven de
Pressurecooker NEDERLAAD Georganiseerd: Arnhemse ontwerpvisies op elektrisch rijden in Nederland.
Een team van Arnhems ontwerptalent uit verschillende disciplines (2D, 3D, architectuur en mode) ontwikkelt volgens het beproefde ’Pressure cooker’ concept een verrassende toekomstvisie op elektrisch rijden in Nederland. Hierbij wordt actief het publiek betrokken via 'The wall of wonders'

Auping herintroduceert Cleoptra op de woonbeurs
Ter gelegenheid van het 120-jarig bestaan van Auping kregen Mars Holwerda (studioMOM), Maarten den Hartog en Pamela Musch (studio DHM) van Auping de opdracht een nieuwe anniversary edition van de Cleopatra te ontwerpen.
De in 1953 door Cordemeijer ontworpen klassieker Cleopatra was hèt bed waarmee de spiraalbodem van Auping groot werd en de fabrikant uit Deventer definitief haar naam heeft weten te vestigen in binnen en buitenland.
Het ideale Auping bed in de geest van Cordemeijer is helder van lijn, licht maar degelijk en op een sierlijke manier no nonsense.
De nieuwe Cleopatra is langer, breder en forser dan zijn voorganger uit 1953 om aan alle eisen die anno nu aan een bed gesteld worden te voldoen. Een subtiele lijn op de flank herinnert aan de oude dimensies van het bed.

studioMOM bij finalisten ontwerpwedstrijd oplaadpaal
Om de introductie van het elektrisch autorijden in Nederland te versnellen, zijn twee zaken nodig: elektrische auto’s en een landelijk netwerk van ‘oplaadpalen’ waar elektrische auto’s kunnen opladen. De netwerkbeheerders willen voor eind 2012 tienduizend oplaadpalen in Nederland plaatsen.
De wedstrijd 'ontwerp een oplaadpaal' is een groot succes. Bijna 60 ontwerpers en ontwerpbureau’s zenden een schetsontwerp in. De organisatie en de jury zijn erg blij met het aantal inzendingen en in het bijzonder de hoge kwaliteit ervan. Er is zichtbaar veel tijd en aandacht aan het vraagstuk besteed.
De finalisten voor de tweede fase van de ontwerpwedstrijd zijn:

Op 14 juni van 11.00 - 18.00 vindt de open atelierroute van de Mode Biënnale 2009 plaats..
studioMOM stelt op deze dag samen met veel andere product-, mode- en grafisch ontwerpers haar werkruimte open. Je bent van harte welkom om een kijkje in de keuken te komen nemen.

“It is a good thing that we can't be fooled tha easily anymore. How many megapixels here and how many watts there. In the end it doesn't say anything about a product's capacity. Kruitbosch launches Cortina collection 2009
Kruitbosch launches it's new collection Cortina bikes. studioMOM signed for the design. Next to their own brand new building the people of Kruitbosch organised their own 1500 m2 fair with a presentation of all new collections. The Cortina Collection is received very enthusiastically .

Director of Boijmans Van Beuningen chooses design Mars Holwerda as best Dutch design
In Trouw (Dutch Newspaper) of Friday September 26 jl. Sjarel Ex, director of Boijmans Van Beuningen, announced his top 3 best Dutch Designs. One of them is the Xenta payment terminal of Banksys that Mars Holwerda Designed in 2002, employed by Well Design
Sjarel Ex:
'It’s a pleasure to slide your pass through this product. It is nice and sable and it is designed in a way nobody can watch you entering your PIN-code. The machine has only been on the marked for a wile, but I expect we will be enjoying it for many years to come.'
The choice of Sjarel Ex is part of the series: ’The best Dutch Design’ of Trouw.

The SutureAid forceps nominated for Dutch Design Awards
The Nominees for the Dutch Design Awards 2008 are Announced. Out of 700 participants The SutureAid forceps is nominated together wit 63 other products.
Teamwork
SutureAid initiated the project with the first Idea. StudioMOM and Panton were developing partners.
StudioMOM did the design work. Panton was responsible for the engineering, the project management, the research.
The result: SutureAid, an effective, safe and beautiful forceps for surgeons, a nomination for the DDA and (most importantly) the first successful heart surgeries.

StudioMOM
moves into new studio
StudioMOM settles into a new working space. It is located in a monumental
formal school in the Schoolstraat in Arnhem. The building is designed by the architect Gerrit Versteeg.
The famous scolar M.C. Escher spend part of his highschool period in this building. The interior, especially the impressive staircase, has become an important theme in his work.

Tiger introduceert deze maand de door StudioMOM ontworpen Ontario badkamerlijn. Dat gebeurt op de VSK, de vakbeurs voor verwarming, sanitair, klimaatbeheersing en koudetechniek. De Ontario-lijn maakt deel uit van de nieuwe collectie van Tiger voor 2008.
